Preschool Speech Language Services - The Highland Park Independent School District offers "walk-in" speech and language services to children ages 3 to 5 that may be having difficulty with a variety of concerns including, articulation, phonological processes, or a specific language impairment. Services provided are individualized for each student, however, "walk-in" sessions are typically around 30 minutes, twice a week, Monday through Friday during the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. based on availability.
PPCD Program - The Highland Park Independent School District offers Preschool Programs for Children with Disabilities (PPCD) which provides more intensive special education and related services for eligible children ages 3 to 5 with a variety of disabilities. Services offered are individualized for each student and could include occupational therapy, physical therapy and speech language therapy services. The PPCD program is served in a classroom setting from 9:00 a.m.- 2:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Location - The Preschool Speech Language Services and PPCD services for HPISD are managed and provided at the Bradfield Elementary Campus.
Preschool Evaluation Procedure - Parents may contact the district when there are concerns with possible developmental delays or disorders, such as those pertaining to speech, language, or atypical behavior. Below you will find the Parent Referral Data Intake Form and the Preschool Teacher Report Form (if applicable). Please complete and return by email to email@example.com or by mail to Beth Basile, Bradfield Elementary, 4300 Southern Ave., Dallas, Texas 75205. Prior to an in depth assessment, copies of the following information are also needed: Child's Birth Certificate, Proof of Residency (recent utility bill - not a phone bill) Child's immunization Record and Parent/Guardian's Driver's License.
This detailed information gathering is important in determining not only if a delay or disorder may be possible, but if there is an educational need. If you have further questions about the process you may contact our Special Education Campus Coordinator, Mindy Walls at 214-780-3294 or by email at firstname.lastname@example.org .
Once the hearing and vision screening is provided and the information forms have been gathered, an appointment will be scheduled to review the information regarding your child's overall development. Upon completion of the review it will be determined whether referral for a more in depth assessment is needed.
To rule out possible vision and hearing difficulties, either provide a current hearing and vision screening from your pediatrician or schedule an appointment with our school nurse, Kim Hartis, R.N. You may reach nurse Hartis by telephone at 214-780-3220 or by email at HartisK@HPISD.ORG
