Early Childhood (ECSE)

ECSE Program Description:

Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE) formally  PPCD provides special education and related services for eligible children with disabilities ages three to five. ECSE refers to the services provided by the school district, not to the place where they are provided. Eligible children may receive ECSE services in a variety of settings such as pre-kindergarten, resource, and self-contained classrooms. ECSE serves children age three to five with varying degrees of disability. Services, which begin on the child’s third birthday, are provided in the least restrictive environment. The primary goal of ECSE is to provide a quality preschool experience that prepares students for success in general education or in the least restrictive environment by age six. The instructional focus is to provide opportunities for learning that are appropriate for each child’s developmental level.
